Sony Introduces A6300 Camera & FE “G Master” Lenses
Sony has announced three much anticipated lenses, a constant aperture 24-70mm f/2.8, an 85mm f/1.4 and a 70-200mm f/2.8 as well as a new camera, the A6300.
A6300 – Focus at the speed of sight
The all-new A6300 joins Sony’s APS-C mirrorless lineup as the flagship model. It includes dust and weather resistance, a highly robust and secure lens mount, and with up to 11 frames per second shooting and an AF system that can keep up with that frame rate it’s obviously aimed squarely to compete head-to-head with its DSLR counterparts. Add in-camera 4K movie recording and you’ve got one serious camera, for still and movie shooters alike.

- Up to 11 fps Shooting and ISO 51200
A new APS-C sensor with approximately 24.2 effective megapixels features copper wiring and enhanced circuit processing that lower the wiring layer and boost light collection efficiency. In conjunction with the BIONZ X image processor, it minimizes noise throughout a wide sensitivity range of ISO 100-51200*.
The highly conductive copper in the circuitry significantly accelerates readout speed in order for the camera to offer 4K movie recording with full pixel readout without pixel binning and Full HD 120fps shooting among its advanced functions.
High-bit-rate XAVC S* format
As a more consumer-friendly version of the XAVC 4K/HD format for professional use, the XAVC S* format is great for capturing high-quality images at a maximum 100Mbps bit rate for 4K 30p (25p)/24p. The benefits of finer details and less compression noise are perfectly clear.
Extra-smooth XGA OLED Tru-Finder
Sony’s using a newly employed high-contrast, high-resolution “XGA OLED Tru-Finder”. They say it offers high visibility and fine details are easy to see in dark areas.
This little viewfinder offers a refresh mode to display at up to 120fps – which should effectively cancel any EVF lag.
Wide & Fast Autofocus
The 6300 is supremely fast, accurate and reliable at capturing subjects in clear focus wherever they move within the frame. After all, it has the world’s highest number* (425*) of focal plane phase-detection AF points widely and densely positioned throughout the image area.
Dust and moisture resistant
Enjoy carefree shooting in tough environments, thanks to comprehensive dust and moisture resistance measures that help prevent water and dust from entering the body. These measures include sealing around the buttons and dials, as well as a protective double-layered structure that tightly interlocks panels and components.
The camera will be available in a body only configuration for $999.99 or with 16-50mm lens for $1,149.99 in early March.

Moving on to the new lenses, dubbed “G Masters”, they are of the FE variety, meaning that they will work on any of Sony’s mirrorless cameras, but are really intended and designed for the A7 full frame cameras. These cameras have been rapidly gaining in popularity and now with native f/2.8 zooms and a fast long prime portrait lens they’re sure to keep up their momentum.
“The new G Master brand represents the finest and most impressive group of lenses that Sony has ever brought to market,” said Neal Manowitz, Vice President of Digital Imaging at Sony Electronics.
